Geopolitical solutions discussed at COSAC 2026, with Moldova represented by Marcel Spatari

The second session of the Meeting of the Presidents of the Conference of the Specialized Bodies for Community and European Affairs (COSAC) will focus on European geopolitical challenges. This event is taking place on January 11-12 in Cyprus. The Republic of Moldova is being represented by Marcel Spatari, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration.
Officials and experts from various states are gathered to analyze effective strategies for countering geopolitical pressures and to discuss the necessary policy adjustments needed to address the new realities in the region.
The meeting agenda consists of two main sessions. The first session focuses on the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which is structured around three key pillars: "A strategically autonomous and resilient European Union," "A European Union that looks outwards," and "A strong and socially cohesive European Union."
The second session will be dedicated to addressing European geopolitical challenges. Participants will discuss the essential instruments needed to respond to external pressures and the public policy measures appropriate to the current context.

COSAC is a forum established in 1989 to promote cooperation, exchange information, and share best practices among the national parliaments of the European Union's Member States and the European Parliament.
The objective of COSAC is to facilitate discussions between members of national parliaments and Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) regarding the practical aspects of parliamentary scrutiny over European affairs.
We remind you that the Republic of Cyprus has assumed the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the second time, effective from January 1, 2026. This comes during a period characterized by multiple crises in both geopolitical and economic contexts. According to officials in Nicosia, the enlargement of the European Union will be one of the key priorities of the Cypriot presidency.
