Over 74,000 left bank residents are medically insured. The state paid over 140 million lei for their treatment

Tens of thousands of residents of the Transnistrian region receive treatment and compensated medicines in hospitals and clinics on the right bank of the Nistru. According to authorities, 74,500 Moldovan citizens living on the left bank hold medical insurance within the national system. Many of them, including children, pensioners, and vulnerable people, receive coverage paid by the state.

According to the National Health Insurance Company, the majority of insured individuals, totaling 61,851 people, are covered by state insurance. Among these beneficiaries, there are 36,252 children under the age of 18, as well as other vulnerable groups. Additionally, 2,582 individuals have paid their health insurance premiums independently, while 10,067 are employed by companies officially registered in the Republic of Moldova and receive insurance through their workplace.

Access to family doctors and basic services

By the end of 2025, 50,421 people from the Transnistrian region had registered with family doctors in institutions operating under the "Compulsory Health Insurance" information system (AOAM). Of these, 29,060 were insured individuals, while 21,361 were uninsured but could still access emergency medical services or special programs in specific situations.

Data shows that between January 1 and December 31, 2025, 8,283 people from the eastern districts benefited from subsidized medicines and medical devices. A total of 23.15 million lei was allocated from the AOAM funds for this purpose.

The most commonly requested medications were those used to treat chronic diseases, particularly cardiovascular disorders and diabetes mellitus, which significantly affect the population's health.

Last year, patients from the Transnistrian region also received complex hospital treatments. A total of 6,456 cases were treated in 63 medical institutions on the right bank of the Nistru, with a budget exceeding 119 million lei allocated for these treatments.

Among the medical services provided were interventional cardiology procedures, musculoskeletal prosthetics, endovascular surgery, and high-performance implants, all funded through mandatory health insurance.

Official estimates indicate that the number of citizens of the Republic of Moldova living in the region on the left bank of the Dniester, including the municipality of Bender, ranges from 347,000 to 362,000.
