Moldova boosts prosecution funding: 83% of 2026 budget earmarked for salaries

The Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) approved the 2026 budget for the Prosecutor General’s Office during its session on January 21. The institution will operate with over €26.5 million (approx. 519.4 million MDL), marking a 1.45% increase compared to 2025.

Interim Prosecutor General Alexandru Machidon stated that the vast majority of the funds—€22.1 million (433.5 million MDL)—will cover staff salaries. This allocation represents approximately 83.5% of the total budget.

The budget also includes 37.8 million MDL for the procurement of goods and 10.7 million MDL for capital repairs.

Infrastructure and specialized units

A portion of the 2026 investment is dedicated to modernizing regional infrastructure. Key projects include the renovation of prosecution offices in Soroca, Criuleni, and Dubăsari, as well as facilities in Hâncești and Cahul.

Anticorruption and organized crime funding

The specialized branches of the prosecution service have also received their specific allocations. The Anticorruption Prosecution Office will operate with a budget exceeding 57 million MDL.

Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) has been assigned 58.4 million MDL for the 2026 fiscal year.
