France pledges continued economic support for Moldova as AFD investments hit €208 million

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and French Minister for Foreign Trade Nicolas Forissier announced a major economic mission to Chișinău scheduled for March 2026. The agreement was reached on Thursday, January 22, during a bilateral meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The upcoming mission will convene leaders from France’s largest business federations and major corporations. Their primary objective is to identify new investment opportunities and launch joint ventures with Moldovan partners to strengthen regional trade.

Strategic investment and European integration

During the high-level talks, Minister Forissier reaffirmed France’s steadfast support for Moldova’s path toward European Union membership. Both officials emphasized that ongoing reforms are designed to deliver tangible benefits to citizens while creating a stable environment for foreign capital.

The France-Moldova Chamber of Commerce and Industry will continue to facilitate these exchanges. Current diplomatic efforts focus on accelerating economic cooperation and integrating Moldova more deeply into European value chains.

AFD provides €208 million in financial backing

A significant portion of the discussion centered on the French Development Agency (AFD). Over the past three years, the AFD has provided €208 million (approx. 4.1 billion MDL) in financial assistance to the Republic of Moldova.

These funds have been strategically deployed to modernize national infrastructure and enhance energy security. Additionally, the investment supports judicial reforms and provides essential credit lines for the local business environment.
