Justice served in Chișinău after Turkish visitors were lured and robbed of €17,000

A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to eight years in a semi-open correctional facility for his role in the robbery of five Turkish citizens in Chișinău. The Chisinau Municipal Prosecutor's Office confirmed the ruling following a case that dates back to February 2022.
The convict and an accomplice—who received a six-year sentence in 2023—targeted the foreign nationals while they were staying temporarily in the capital. The perpetrators used a personal vehicle under the guise of providing transport to a requested destination.
Instead of reaching their destination, the victims were driven to various locations inside and outside the city. Prosecutors stated that the victims were then physically assaulted and incapacitated with tear gas before being abandoned in remote areas.
The stolen items included mobile phones, bank cards, watches, and cash, totaling a material loss of €17,000 (approx. 335,000 MDL). While the defendant admitted to transporting the victims, he denied direct involvement in the physical violence or the theft.
