Nicu Popescu denies the information presented by the Russian MFA regarding the Transnistrian region: "It is not true"
The Minister of Foreign Affairs from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu, publicly denies the information presented today by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation regarding the alleged provocations by the Ukrainian armed forces on the Transnistrian segment of the state border of the Republic of Moldova with Ukraine. The head of diplomacy from Chisinau declares that it "it is not true" and reiterates, in the context, the need for the unconditional and transparent withdrawal of Russian military forces from the region.
"The messages released in the last few days in public space by the authorities of the Russian Federation are not true. The authorities of the Republic of Moldova denied these statements as unfounded, made with the aim of manipulating public opinion. The security situation in the region is stable," wrote Nicu Popescu on his Telegram channel.
The official reiterated, in this context, the position of the Moldovan authorities regarding the exclusively peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict based on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova within the internationally recognized borders.
"We consider today's statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation as provocative and we reiterate the need for the unconditional and transparent withdrawal of Russian military forces and ammunition stocks from Cobasna from the territory of the Republic of Moldova," Popescu wrote.
We remind you that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia today condemned the so-called concentration of Ukrainian military forces on the border between Ukraine and the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. In a statement issued, Russian diplomacy warned Ukraine and NATO countries not to "adventure" regarding the Transnistrian region, noting that it is ready to "adequately respond" to any provocations that would endanger the population of the region.
We remind you that on February 23, the Russian Ministry of Defense published two press releases in which they declare that a significant accumulation of personnel and military equipment of Ukrainian units is registered near the border between Ukraine and the Transnistrian region. The advisor of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Mihail Podoliak, rejected Moscow's accusations, in an exclusive interview for Radio Moldova. The Ukrainian official stated that the decision to solve the Transnistrian problem belongs only to the Moldovan side. Moreover, the adviser to the Ukrainian president also mentioned that Ukraine would not act in this way without direct consultations with the Republic of Moldova, Romania and the countries of the European Union. The information disseminated by Moscow was not confirmed by the Chisinau authorities either. Both the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Moldova and the Delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the Joint Control Commission stated today that, at present, there are no direct threats to the military security of the state. The authorities called for calm and urged people to stay calm and only get information from official sources.
