Emergency crews ensure medical access as ice grips Moldovan highways

General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) officers completed 92 high-priority missions over the last 24 hours to counteract the effects of severe black ice across Moldova.

First responders focused on extricating stranded vehicles and securing access for emergency medical services. In 18 specific cases, IGSU teams cleared icy roads to ensure ambulances could reach patients in critical condition.

Strategic regional interventions

The most frequent interventions occurred in the districts of Telenești, Orhei, Căușeni, Rezina, Anenii Noi, Criuleni, and Nisporeni. IGSU officials confirmed that all operations were concluded successfully without further incident.

In the capital city of Chișinău and southern regions like Hâncești and Ialoveni, heavy specialized machinery was deployed to tow vehicles that had skidded off the main roads.

Securing public infrastructure

Emergency teams also addressed fallen trees blocking roadways in Șoldănești and Soroca. These rapid clearing operations prevented major traffic bottlenecks and secured the surrounding areas for commuters.

No casualties or injuries were reported following these weather-related incidents.

Ongoing vigilance

Rescue and fire crews remain on 24-hour standby across the country. Authorities urge citizens to monitor weather alerts and contact the 112 Emergency Service immediately if they encounter life-threatening situations.

The Inspectorate continues to advise maximum caution for all drivers and pedestrians until weather conditions stabilize.
