The State Road Administration (AND) reports that national roads in Northern Moldova are currently experiencing winter driving conditions as of Friday morning, January 30.

Road surfaces in northern districts remain wet or snow-covered with patches of black ice. Meanwhile, roads in the Central and Southern regions are reported as wet but clear.

Rapid emergency response

During the night and early morning, road crews conducted preventive de-icing operations to ensure traffic safety. These interventions focused on the districts of Ocnița, Soroca, Dondușeni, Briceni, Râșcani, Edineț, Florești, Drochia, and Șoldănești.

A fleet of 32 specialized vehicles and 17 road workers carried out the technical deployment. Crews distributed 153 tonnes of technical salt and 25 tonnes of abrasive material to maintain road viability.

Safety recommendations for motorists

Authorities warn that weather conditions remain favorable for the formation of black ice on several road sectors. Officials urge drivers to exercise increased caution and maintain high visibility.

Motorists are advised to check road conditions before departure. Vehicles must be properly equipped for winter driving, and drivers should strictly follow official traffic recommendations.
