Cioc-Maidan infrastructure: Village secures €474,500 for major road overhaul

Residents of Cioc-Maidan, located in the Gagauzia autonomy, will soon benefit from a modernized main arterial road. The project, funded through the "Europe is Close" program, aims to streamline local transit and improve the daily lives of nearly 1,000 villagers.
The initiative focuses on a final 850-meter segment of Kotovski Street, a vital three-kilometer route. While parts of the road were rehabilitated in 2018, this final phase addresses a section that has long hindered local transport and increased vehicle maintenance costs for residents.
Strategic infrastructure development
The total investment for this modernization reaches €474,500 (approx. 9.3 million MDL). The local mayor's office will contribute 10% of the budget, ensuring a collaborative financial effort between European partners and local authorities.
Mayor Oleg Constandoglo noted that the project was prioritized following numerous petitions and signatures from the community. The upgrade includes 450 meters of capital reconstruction with new asphalt, while the remaining stretch will receive sidewalks, curbs, and advanced drainage systems.
Timeline and delivery
The financing contract was officially signed in January. The project will now move to the public tender stage to select a contractor for the works.
Construction is scheduled for completion by the end of July this year. This modernization marks a significant step in the regional strategy to align rural infrastructure with international standards through external assistance.
