Severe weather prompts remote learning and work transition in Chisinau

Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban announced that all municipal schools will transition to remote learning on February 5 and 6. The decision follows severe weather warnings and a high risk of black ice on roads and sidewalks.

The measure aims to ensure the safety of students and teaching staff. Additionally, municipal authorities have authorized remote-capable staff to work from home during this period to reduce traffic and potential accidents.

Infrastructure response

Municipal services have been deployed since Wednesday evening to mitigate risks. Anti-skid materials were applied twice across all sectors, though freezing rain and temperature fluctuations continue to create hazardous conditions within hours of intervention.

National weather services confirm that these conditions will persist. The Crisis Management Center remains active, coordinating efforts to maintain road safety and restore power to communities affected by localized grid failures.

National context

The weather crisis, which began on February 4, has impacted much of Moldova, particularly northern regions. Authorities have temporarily restricted heavy tonnage transport in high-risk areas and urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel.
