Chișinău and Abu Dhabi strengthen diplomatic ties through strategic mobility agreement

The governments of the Republic of Moldova and the United Arab Emirates have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the mutual recognition and conversion of driving licenses.
This measure significantly streamlines international mobility for citizens. It reduces bureaucratic hurdles for drivers staying temporarily or residing in either country, according to the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Simplified conversion process
The agreement allows citizens to convert their driving licenses without the need for additional theoretical or practical exams. This exemption applies to specific vehicle categories for individuals establishing residency, subject to local legal requirements.
Ministry officials emphasized that this initiative supports the integration of students and professionals. By eliminating complex administrative procedures, the MoU saves significant time for those working or living abroad.
A deepening partnership
This document builds on previous diplomatic successes, including the visa liberalization agreement signed on August 4, 2025. These combined efforts facilitate seamless travel between the two nations.
The MoU was signed by Moldova’s Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, and the UAE’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the step as a milestone in the Chișinău-Abu Dhabi dialogue. The agreement is expected to foster deeper bilateral cooperation and practical institutional synergy.
