Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, gives assurances: the Republic of Moldova will not join NATO
The Republic of Moldova will not join NATO, but like any neutral state, it must ensure its security, claimed the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, during a show on Prime TV. The statements were made in the context in which several voices claim that there would be a danger of an escalation of a conflict if our country were to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
"If we say bluntly that this is what we want, or the question arises of the Republic of Moldova's accession to NATO or not. No, this problem does not arise. Related to neutrality. In the current conditions of the war in proximity, when a Russian missile passes by our border or through our airspace from time to time, we are forced to ask ourselves the question very seriously - how do we protect our airspace? The last time we had to close our airspace for an hour, because it is about the aeronautical security of our citizens. The separatist authorities on the left of the Nistru, let's say it as it is, are much better equipped than the national army", said the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu. We remind you that President Maia Sandu requested anti-aircraft systems and financial aid from the allies to strengthen the defense capacity of the Republic of Moldova against the background of the regional situation with the outbreak of the war by the Russian Federation in Ukraine. This fact has aroused several speculations in the public space.
