In first official visit to Ukraine, Prime Minister Munteanu honors fallen defenders and affirms European solidarity

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday, February 10, marking his first official visit to Ukraine since taking office. He began the mission by honoring the fallen defenders who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and freedom of the neighboring state.

Accompanied by Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Sviridenko, Munteanu laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance. The ceremony served as a solemn tribute to those lost during the ongoing conflict, highlighting the deep ties between the two nations.
"Each photograph on this wall represents a life shattered by war and a grieving family," Munteanu stated. He emphasized that the sacrifice of these soldiers serves as a stark reminder of the immense value of human life, peace, and liberty.
The Prime Minister underscored that Russia’s aggression, which escalated four years ago, remains a global threat. He noted that the Ukrainian people are currently fighting not only for their own soil but for the stability of the entire European continent.

Moldova continues to stand in firm solidarity with Ukraine. Munteanu reaffirmed Chișinău's commitment to providing humanitarian support and advocating for a just, lasting peace in the region.
The high-level agenda includes meetings with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and parliamentary leadership. Discussions will focus on the shared EU accession trajectory, bilateral cooperation, and regional security frameworks.
This visit follows Munteanu’s initial diplomatic missions to Bucharest in November 2025 and Brussels. The move signals Moldova’s strategic priority to align closely with its Western partners and immediate neighbors during these volatile times.
