Kidnapped Ukrainian girl reunited with her mother after four months of international search

A three-year-old girl, who was wanted internationally by Interpol, was found in Cahul by officers from the Sud Regional Directorate of the General Inspectorate for Migration. The child had been taken by her father in October 2025 due to a family conflict and was illegally removed from Ukraine.
Ukrainian authorities announced the disappearance of a child and initiated an international search. After nearly four months, the child's father was identified in the Republic of Moldova.
According to the police, the 43-year-old Ukrainian man is currently in the process of divorcing his wife. Following a conflict, he allegedly took his daughter from a playground and unlawfully left Ukraine with her. An international alert was subsequently issued for his capture.
The man was located and detained in Cahul in cooperation with officers from the Cahul Police Inspectorate. He has been placed in the isolation ward of the Chisinau Police Department, and extradition procedures to Ukraine are now underway.
Fortunately, the girl was found safe and has been returned to her mother.
Authorities remind the public that, due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, men aged between 22 and 60 who are eligible for military service are prohibited from leaving the country.
