Power outages from bad weather are affecting consumers in central and southern Moldova

On Wednesday, February 18, hundreds of consumers in central and southern Moldova experienced power outages due to adverse weather conditions. According to the Ministry of Energy, precipitation and wind caused damage to the distribution networks. Intervention teams were mobilised to address and repair the issues.

According to data from Premier Energy Distribution, there were 1,233 disconnections, primarily in the center-south of the country. Two localities in the Vulcănești district were partially affected: the village of Alexandru Ioan Cuza and the village of Etulia.

To address these issues, the operator mobilized 16 intervention teams, each consisting of 2 to 5 members depending on the complexity of the work. Installers and builders are currently in the field working to restore electricity supply.

In the northern part of the country, RED-Nord reported no disconnections based on operational information.

Authorities stated that the situation is being continuously monitored and that teams in the field are working to restore electricity as quickly as possible.

We remind you that heavy snowfall, blizzards, and ice are expected in the Republic of Moldova, particularly in the southern regions where an Orange Code for severe weather is in effect. The central region is under a Yellow Code, while the northern part faces a lower risk. Meteorologists forecast significant precipitation, increased winds, and challenging traffic conditions, with possible snowdrifts and ice formation. This warning is valid until February 18 at 20:00.
