Tiraspol imposes special salary payment regime for state employees until year-end

The authorities in Tiraspol implemented a special salary payment system for employees in the region's budget sector. This measure will be effective from March 1 to December 31, 2026. The decision was made during a meeting of the unrecognized executive governing the left bank of the Nistru.

According to the recent decision, salaries, allowances, and other payments will now be disbursed twice a month in equal instalments during the first and second halves of each month. This change has been justified by officials as a necessary step to optimize budget expenditures and ensure strict control over public finances.

The decision also states that various social benefits, such as childbirth allowances, childcare payments, maternity allowances, and benefits for temporary incapacity to work, will be fully paid along with the first salary installment.

However, this special payment regime will not apply to vacation allowances for teachers during the summer period, payments from income generated by institutions providing paid services, nor to employees whose salaries fall below the minimum wage established in the region.

Officials in Tiraspol mentioned that the payment mechanism could be adjusted if the financial situation demands it and noted that a similar system was implemented in 2025 when salaries were distributed in two installments during the summer.

Additionally, it is important to note that on February 10, the so-called authorities in Tiraspol extended the state of economic emergency for another 30 days, until March 17. This state of emergency was initially established on December 18, 2025, and has been justified by financial difficulties and potential risks associated with interruptions in natural gas supplies. These concerns arise amid a slowdown in settlement operations within the European Union.

The energy crisis has worsened since Russian gas supplies were halted, following the cessation of transit through Ukraine on January 1, 2025. Subsequently, Chisinau stopped purchasing electricity generated in the Transnistrian region, thereby significantly reducing local budget revenues.
