Alexei Gherțescu's mandate at the Competition Council will end on March 1

The mandate of Alexei Gherțescu as President of the Plenum of the Competition Council will conclude on March 1. On February 26, Parliament approved Gherțescu's resignation request, citing personal reasons.
Alexei Gherțescu submitted his resignation on February 20, just a few days after the European Integration Committee held parliamentary hearings on the Competition Council's activities.
During the hearings, MP Dinu Plîngău strongly criticized the leadership of the Competition Council, claiming that it has significant delays in aligning its legislation with European Union standards. He explicitly called for Alexei Gherțescu to resign.
It is important to note that Gherțescu is stepping down after four years in office, having been appointed as the institution's head on February 17, 2022.
According to the law, members of the Plenum of the Competition Council, including the president, are appointed by Parliament, upon a proposal from the President of Parliament and with the approval of the relevant parliamentary committee.
