Starting March 2, companies in the Republic of Moldova will be able to make instant transfers between legal entities (Business-to-Business – B2B) using the MIA Instant Payments system, with a maximum fee of 40 lei per transaction.

According to the National Bank of Moldova (BNM), financial transactions now occur in real-time through internet and mobile banking channels provided by payment service providers.

This new functionality allows companies to initiate and receive transfers in Moldovan lei at any time, even outside regular banking hours. Funds are settled within seconds, facilitating uninterrupted cash flow and improving liquidity management.

The system is applicable for a wide range of commercial operations, from paying invoices and advances to quickly releasing deliveries.

Costs and benefits

To ensure predictable costs, the BNM has established a fixed commission of 0.7% of the transfer value, capped at 40 lei per transaction. This tariff structure aims to support the business environment by reducing the financial burden on current operations.

“The expansion of instant payments to legal entities optimizes financial flows, streamlines commercial relations, and reduces dependence on the working hours of payment service providers while supporting the digitalization of economic processes,” stated Anca Dragu, the Governor of the National Bank of Moldova.

Initially launched on March 12, 2024, the MIA Instant Payments platform has experienced rapid adoption and is now utilized by every second citizen with a bank account.

The extension to the B2B segment complements the existing service portfolio, which already includes transfers between individuals (P2P), business-to-business payments (P2B), and payments to public services (P2G).

Through this modernization phase, the Republic of Moldova is aligning its payment infrastructure with European standards, promoting a transparent, digitalized, and inclusive financial ecosystem.
