New Moldovan Ambassador Mihai Mîțu presents credentials to President Nicușor Dan at Cotroceni Palace

Romania’s commitment to the Republic of Moldova remains a core foreign policy priority. President Nicușor Dan reaffirmed this strategic partnership during a meeting with the new Moldovan Ambassador to Bucharest, Mihai Mîțu.
The formal ceremony took place at the Cotroceni Palace on Tuesday, March 3. Ambassador Mîțu officially commenced his tenure by presenting his letters of accreditation to the Romanian President.
Technical Aid for EU Integration
President Dan emphasized that Bucharest will continue to provide consistent bilateral support across all strategic sectors. Romania also pledges to galvanize international partners to support Chisinau’s regional stability.
Regarding European integration, Romania will offer specialized technical assistance. This includes expertise for legislative alignment and the seamless integration of the EU acquis communautaire.
Infrastructure and Resilience
The leaders discussed attracting foreign investment to Moldova and advancing key infrastructure projects. Enhancing energy interconnection and building national resilience were also highlighted as mutual priorities.
Diplomatic Background
Mihai Mîțu was appointed Ambassador in late January, replacing Victor Chirilă. Mîțu previously served as a counselor in Bucharest (2019–2021) and held the position of Chief of Protocol for the Moldovan Presidency.
Before his current assignment, he served as the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration in Chisinau. Recent decrees signed by President Maia Sandu finalized his transition to the mission in Bucharest.
