Authorities warn of hazardous river conditions as Molovata Ferry prepares to resume service

Strategic icebreaking operations have been completed on the Dniester River to facilitate the safe return of the state-operated Molovata Ferry.

The State Enterprise "Bacul Molovata" announced that the intervention was essential to restore the vital transport link between the river’s two banks. Technical teams cleared the frozen waterway to ensure the ferry's navigational path was free from obstructions.

Safety warnings for local residents

Despite the clearance, officials warn that the remaining ice has become structurally unstable and poses a severe risk to the public. Local authorities in Molovata Village issued an emergency briefing on Tuesday, March 3, following the icebreaking activity near Molovata Noua.

Citizens and fishermen are urged to stay off the ice, regardless of its apparent thickness. The administration emphasized that the ice is "extremely volatile" and could give way without warning, urging parents to maintain strict supervision of minors near the riverbanks.

Restoring a critical transport artery

The Molovata Ferry service has been suspended since January 14 due to an unusually harsh winter freeze that immobilized the Dniester. This ferry serves as a crucial bypass for residents, allowing movement between regions without navigating internal customs posts.

While a firm date for the full resumption of the regular schedule has not yet been set, authorities will provide updates based on weather conditions. In the event of an emergency, citizens are instructed to contact the 112 Emergency Service immediately.
