Renewable sources supplied about 80% of Moldova’s energy at noon

On March 5, at 12:00 PM, approximately 79% of the electricity consumed in the Republic of Moldova was generated from renewable sources. The total domestic electricity consumption at that time was 367.4 MW, with 289 MW produced by renewable power plants, thanks to favorable weather conditions, as announced by the Ministry of Energy.

According to the institution, the majority of renewable energy was generated from solar panels, which produced over 213 MW.

Additionally, wind energy contributed 53.8 MW, and hydroelectric power generated more than 21 MW.

Only 0.8 MW came from biogas, accounting for a very small portion of the total output.

In contrast, traditional thermoelectric plants produced 280.9 MW; however, renewable energy surpassed this output, generating nearly three times that of the Cuciurgan power plant (MGRES).

In February, the Republic of Moldova purchased a total of 420 thousand MWh of electricity. Notably, 55.11% of this energy was imported.

Additionally, 37.35% of the purchased energy was acquired through bilateral contracts with suppliers and producers in Romania, while 17.76% was obtained through the BRM and OPCOM trading platforms.

Domestic producers contributed 44.89% of the electricity delivered during the month.

According to Energocom, the average price for electricity purchased in February was €123.80 per MWh.
