Ambassador: flights abroad expected soon; 8,000 Moldovans work in Israel

There are approximately 8,000 Moldovans working in Israel, according to an estimate by Yoram Elron, the Israeli ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. The diplomat is confident that Israel's airports will resume operations in the coming days.
“They are protected by Israeli air defense systems. If we are talking about workers, we ensure they know what to do. Otherwise, they are in the same circumstances as Israeli citizens. Currently, the airports only operate flights bringing Israelis back from abroad. However, I expect that in the coming days, there will also be flights available for those wishing to leave,” the ambassador stated.
While the airspace is closed, the land borders remain open. Moldovan citizens wishing to leave Israel can cross into Egypt through the continuously operating border crossing, as well as into Jordan, though the crossings with Jordan operate on a specific schedule.
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova are urged to comply with the measures set by Israeli authorities and to stay in bomb shelters until an official announcement indicates the end of the alert.
Starting Thursday, March 5, at 12:00, Israeli authorities updated the safety instructions for the population, moving all regions of the country from a strict level of restrictions to a restricted level. This announcement was communicated to Moldovan citizens by the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Israel, based on the Home Front Command's assessment of the security situation.
According to the new rules, educational activities will remain suspended. Public gatherings will be allowed only if there are no more than 50 people and if participants can quickly reach a safe space in the event of an alert.
Additionally, work will only be permitted in places where employees can immediately access a protected area.
These new instructions will be effective until Saturday, March 7, at 20:00.
The security situation in the Middle East remains "complex," with missile and drone attacks ongoing in several countries in the region. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Crisis Cell, there have been no recorded casualties or injuries among citizens of the Republic of Moldova in the monitored countries to date.
