Fifth suspect in €40,000 bribery case detained at Chișinău International Airport

Anti-corruption officers and prosecutors detained a fifth individual at the "Eugen Doga" International Airport in Chisinau while they were attempting to flee the country. This person is an accomplice in a case involving a 40,000-euro bribe collected to secure the release of a prisoner.
According to the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), a suspect will be questioned and held in solitary confinement for 72 hours.
Last week, four individuals were arrested for accepting a bribe of 40,000 euros.
The arrests took place in the Râșcani sector of Chisinau shortly after the money was transferred, and the operation was documented by anticorruption officers.
Law enforcement officials allege that the accused demanded this sum to persuade civil servants to make favorable decisions in a criminal case. They claimed they could facilitate the release of an individual who had been convicted in the first instance from criminal punishment.
During the searches, a total of 40,000 euros was confiscated, along with electronic devices used to orchestrate the crime.
The National Anticorruption Center is continuing its investigations to identify all individuals involved in this case.
