Ludmila Vartic case moved to Chișinău; over 30 people questioned

The investigation into the death of Ludmila Vartic was moved from Hânceşti and will now be conducted by the Râșcani District Prosecutor's Office in Chișinău. Also, Petru Ciubotaru, the director of Hânceşti District Hospital, resigned on March 18 after admitting that he failed to notify law enforcement in November 2025 when Vartic arrived at the hospital following a suicide attempt.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, announced that all relevant individuals and institutions related to this case have been heard thus far.

"We have heard absolutely all persons and institutions that could provide information for a more effective investigation. So far, over 30 individuals were interviewed by the police," stated Daniella Misail-Nichitin after the Government meeting on March 18.

She explained that the daughters of Ludmila Vartic were heard under special conditions to ensure their protection and to prevent re-traumatization. The woman’s mother was also interviewed under the same conditions.

The Minister of Internal Affairs further noted that the case file has been transferred from Hâncești and will now be investigated in Chișinău.

"The criminal case has been transferred from Hâncești and is to be examined under the leadership of the Râșcani District Prosecutor’s Office in Chișinău," Daniella Misail-Nichitin said.

She added that complex expert examinations are currently underway, including analyses of the mobile phones and communications of both spouses.

In parallel, Petru Ciubotaru, the director of the Hâncești District Hospital, has submitted his resignation. This announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Emil Ceban, who stated he is taking responsibility for failing to notify the authorities after Ludmila Vartic was hospitalized in November 2025 following a suicide attempt.

"The investigation by the Ministry of Health is ongoing and will conclude on March 20. All hospital staff have testified. The director of the Hâncești District Hospital submitted his resignation request this morning (March 18 - editor's note) on his own initiative, taking responsibility for this case. Ludmila was admitted to the hospital on November 5 (2025 - editor's note) and stayed for two days. The family requested that there be no communication with the police or prosecutor's office," stated Emil Ceban.

According to the minister, the hospital director was legally obligated to notify law enforcement agencies.

At the time, Ludmila Vartic was the wife of the vice-president of the Hâncești District Council. Five months later, she was found dead in Chișinău after falling from a height.

The case garnered public attention shortly after the tragedy when the woman's relatives shared details on social media. Subsequently, accusations emerged that Ludmila was a victim of domestic violence.

Her husband, Dumitru Vartic, who has since resigned as vice president of the Hâncești District Council, denied these allegations.
