Bus from Moldova with 44 passengers overturns in Romania: 1 dead, 15 injured

A bus with 44 passengers traveling on the Chisinau - Bucharest route overturned on Saturday morning, March 21, at the exit from Vaslui county towards Galati, Romanian media reports. A 62-year-old man died after being thrown out of the car, which then crushed him, and 15 other people were injured. Romanian authorities have activated a red intervention plan.

The injured passengers were transported to medical facilities in Romania, writes news.ro.

The other people on the bus, who were not injured in the accident, were transported to a day centre in Bârlad.

The passengers were on a bus from the Republic of Moldova, heading to Otopeni, according to Vaslui County Prefect Eduard Popica.

The man who died was on the bus with his wife and daughter.

The bus driver was tested with a breathalyser, the result being negative.

The accident was reported at 04:30. The bus driver stated that a car appeared on the wrong side and, to avoid a head-on impact, pulled the steering wheel to the right, leaving the roadway, sources from the intervention team told HotNews.

Traffic police are conducting investigations at the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
