Military exercises in the Transnistrian region: 'They want to create the impression of a military presence in the region', experts say
Today, military training began in the Transnistrian region, the so-called Ministry of Defence in Tiraspol announced. Authorities in Chisinau are urging citizens to be calm and get information from reliable sources, and experts in Chisinau say that these exercises are held regularly, but with such announcements, the secessionist leaders in Tiraspol want to create the impression of a military presence in the region.

The so-called Ministry of Defence in Tiraspol says the exercise will last three months and is organised by the peacekeeping contingent on the left bank of the Dniester. By announcing military exercises on the left bank of the Dniester, the secessionist leaders in Tiraspol want to create the impression of a military presence in the region, the Defence Ministry's military research expert Marin Butuc told Radio Moldova.
"They are well realising the situation they are in, because with the dynamics we have, things are going against the existence of this secessionist region. The eventual, long-term scenario, if it remains to be one in favour of Ukraine, and it certainly will be, because there is a mobilization of the whole world against this war triggered by the Russian Federation, then believe me that no one will come to support and tolerate the presence of this unmotivated secessionist element here, on the left bank of the Dniester. And then things end by themselves", said expert Marin Butuc.
Situation in the region makes the secessionist leaders to be malleable in relation to the messages coming from Chisinau, but the risk of provocations persists, political analyst Anatol Țăranu told Radio Moldova.
"Lately there have been very pacifist messages coming from Tiraspol. They constantly talk about the need for dialogue with Chisinau, which until the war with Ukraine was not characteristic for them, they were much more aggressive. But this malleability of Tiraspol is nothing more than the vulnerable state in which they find themselves. If things change, they will revert to their usual rhetoric. We should have no illusions. The Tiraspol separatist regime is promoting the interests of the Russian Federation in this area," said political analyst Anatol Țăranu.
Experts say the Russian Federation does not have the capacity to take military action against Moldova. Although the destabilisation intentions are clear and obvious, in the coming days there would be no premises that would indicate a possible escalation.
Recently, in a communiqué issued by the so-called Transnistrian Ministry of Defence, it was announced that, as of today, for three months, training will be conducted on the left bank of the Dniester. Men and women from the breakaway region, aged between 18 and 55, fit for military service, who signed up for the programme were to be provided with clothing, food and accommodation and paid 2,800 Transnistrian rubles per month.
The authorities in Chisinau have urged the population to remain calm, and to avoid falsehoods and speculation about the region on the left bank of the Dniester, citizens are advised to obtain information from official sources.
