Trump signals Iran nuclear pact, expects oil price plunge

President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that Iran has agreed to abandon its nuclear weapons development, potentially paving the way for a major de-escalation in the Middle East.
Speaking to reporters at a Florida airport, the American leader indicated that Tehran is eager to formalise an agreement. Trump expressed readiness to proceed, noting that the strategic Strait of Hormuz could be reopened shortly "if everything goes well."
Impact on energy markets
The President assured that global oil prices would see a sharp decline immediately upon the signing of the deal. His remarks come after a weekend of intense negotiations which, according to Trump, resolved nearly all outstanding issues.
Strategic context
The United States had previously threatened strikes against Iranian infrastructure unless the Strait of Hormuz was opened within a 48-hour window. "That’s why they called. I didn’t call—they called," Trump added.
The President later took to his Truth Social platform to describe the two-day diplomatic effort as "very good and productive." While Tehran has yet to issue an official statement, the President’s comments suggest a significant shift in the ongoing maritime and nuclear standoff.
