Minister of Justice: " Improvement of the justice sector, an essential condition for the development of a democratic society"

The improvement of the justice sector is a key condition for the development of a democratic society, Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru told a press conference held with the European High Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, in Chisinau.

They discussed actions to fight corruption and capacity building in law enforcement institutions.

"I appreciate the willingness expressed during the discussions to support the Government's reform actions in the justice sector. We had the possibility to discuss the actions taken and those set by the Ministry of Justice in order to meet the expectations of citizens and those of the EU, which have given us confidence in speeding up our European course", the Minister of Justice explained.

In turn, the European High Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, welcomed the commitment of the authorities in Chisinau to the steps of justice reform and gave assurances that he would help in this process, including through expertise and technical assistance.

"We provide support to the process of candidates for the bodies and councils of science and prosecution. The EU is committed to support in the Republic of Moldova, including for an effective vetting for the top institutions in justice so that they are fully in line with European standards", said Didier Reynders.
