Alexandru Machidon clears integrity assessment, awaiting Superior Council of Prosecutors’ decision

The acting Prosecutor General, Alexandru Machidon, has promoted an evaluation of ethical and financial integrity after the Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission unanimously determined that it met the legal criteria, and the report was submitted to the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP).

According to a press release from the commission, after reviewing the accumulated materials and responses from Alexandru Machidon, it was determined that he meets the requirements set out in Law No. 252/2023.

The Superior Council of Prosecutors is expected to make a ruling on the findings within 30 days. After this period, the report will be published either after the legal deadline for appeals has passed or within 3 days of the Supreme Court of Justice's final decision.

Under the legal framework, the Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission is tasked with verifying the ethical and financial integrity of specific categories of prosecutors, including those in leadership positions at the Prosecutor General's Office and prosecutors from specialised offices. This evaluation focuses on professional conduct, ensuring there are no conflicts of interest, and verifying the legitimacy of assets and compliance with tax obligations.

Alexandru Machidon won the competition organized by the CSP for the position of Chief of the Prosecutor General's Office on August 19, 2025. He achieved a score of 8.86 points, surpassing his opponent, Victor Furtună, who was the interim head of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases and received 8.23 points.

From 2011 to 2017, he served as both a prosecutor and the interim deputy chief prosecutor of the Criuleni District Prosecutor's Office. In 2017, he was formally appointed deputy chief prosecutor of the Criuleni District Prosecutor's Office by an order of the Prosecutor General.

Since May 2023, Machidon has been acting as the Chief Prosecutor of the Orhei District Prosecutor's Office. In February 2024, he was appointed Acting Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Chisinau Municipality Prosecutor's Office. Then, in June 2024, he became Acting Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS).

In May 2025, Alexandru Machidon was appointed Acting Prosecutor General of the Republic of Moldova by a decree from President Maia Sandu, following the resignation of Ion Munteanu, who was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Justice.
