Moldova will seek compensation from Russia for destruction of Isaccea–Vulcănești power line

The Republic of Moldova will seek compensation from Russia for damage caused by the attack on the Isaccea-Vulcănești high-voltage power line, stated Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to an official from Chisinau, the damage caused by the recent actions of the Russian Federation is significant and cannot be overlooked.

"The damage is substantial, and we need to determine how to present the bill, as this attack cannot be ignored. It has severely affected the Republic of Moldova's well-being and damaged critical infrastructure, specifically high-voltage power lines. Our immediate priority is to carry out repairs, and afterward, we will assess the situation and request compensation from the Russian Federation through diplomatic channels," declared Mihai Popșoi on TV8.

The minister also noted that specialists from both the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are currently working to repair the high-voltage line, which is expected to be reconnected within five to seven days.

The Isaccea-Vulcănești high-voltage power line was taken out of service after Shahed drones launched by the Russian Federation severed several conductors on the evening of March 23.

The parliament has declared a state of emergency in the energy sector, and electricity supply is currently being maintained through alternative routes.

Starting March 25, the estimated power deficit may reach up to 400 MW during peak hours, particularly in the evening when local renewable energy sources are unable to meet consumption needs.

Authorities have urged citizens to use electricity wisely, especially between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM.
