Ex-Bucharest Court of Appeal judge appointed to Vetting Commission

Aida-Oana Popescu, a former judge of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, has been appointed as a member of the Commission for the External Evaluation of the Ethical and Financial Integrity of judges and candidates for the position of judge of the Supreme Court of Justice. This appointment was approved by 66 deputies on March 26, following the voting of a bill related to this matter.
The development partners previously proposed three candidates for this position. After a competitive selection process organized by the Legal Committee for Appointments and Immunities, Aida-Oana Popescu received the highest number of votes.
Aida-Oana Popescu has nearly 30 years of experience in the justice sector. Throughout her career, she has served as a judge on both the Bucharest Tribunal and the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
The evaluation committee consists of nine members who are appointed by a 3/5 majority vote of the elected deputies. Four members are nominated by the parliamentary factions, while five are proposed by the development partners.
