Digital health: Moldova spends €5.6M on compensated drugs

More than 176,000 people in Moldova received compensated medicines and medical devices in February. These were issued through the "eRețeta" digital system, according to the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM).
To cover these costs, the state insurer transferred over 108 million MDL (approx. €5.58 million) to contracted pharmacies. This amount marks an increase of approximately 2 million MDL compared to the same period last year.
Funding distribution
CNAM directed approximately 100.7 million MDL (€5.2 million) toward medicines. The average cost per beneficiary stood at 612 MDL (€31.6).
The majority of funds targeted cardiovascular treatments. For these conditions, the agency allocated over 49 million MDL (€2.53 million) for roughly 121,000 patients.
Another 34 million MDL (€1.75 million) covered endocrine and nutritional disorders. These funds benefited more than 69,000 people.
High-cost treatments and devices
The most expensive treatment recorded was for epidermolysis bullosa. The average cost per patient for this condition exceeded 3,288 MDL (€170).
Additionally, over 25,000 people received compensated medical devices. CNAM allocated 7.3 million MDL (€377,260) for these items.
The agency reiterated that any doctor can now issue electronic prescriptions. Patients can collect their medication from pharmacies using only their ID cards, eliminating the need for paper documents.
