The deadline for the evaluation of candidates for the position of member of the CSM and CSP has passed. The chairman of the pre-vetting committee gives explanations
The president of the pre-vetting commission, Herman von Hebel, admits that the initial deadline set for the process of evaluating candidates for the position of member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) and the Superior Council of Prosecutors (CSP) has been exceeded.
According to the Dutch jurist, the delay is justified by the fact that the members of the commission have thoroughly evaluated the documents presented by the candidates, but also the information collected from various sources, some of which are not public, others need to be translated. The statements were made on the "Cabinetul din umbra" show on Jurnal TV.
*"It was important for us to have a fair process, to ensure that candidates are treated properly, that we ask all the necessary questions and that we, both national and international members, together are convinced that a candidate can promote or cannot pass the assessment. This requires an enormous amount of information, information analysis that is not always available in English. We started from scratch last April." What we're seeing now, when we're working on the parliamentary candidates, is that things are moving much faster, but the most important thing is that we continue to make sure that our process is thorough and also see which candidates can promote the evaluation, who have an ethical entity, where the financial analysis proves that they are not involved in any form of corruption", said Herman von Hebe.
We remind that, out of 28 judicial candidates registered for the preselection competition for the position of members of the Superior Council of the Magistracy, only 5 passed the evaluation of the pre-vetting commission. The president of the commission admits that the selection process is very rigorous, only candidates with impeccable professional reputation and integrity are admitted.
We remind you that the Pre-vetting Commission started its activity in April 2022, being made up of six members appointed by the Parliament, three of which were recommended by the international development partners, this being the first stage in the justice reform undertaken by the Republic of Moldova.
