Over 3,000 Moldovan households to receive energy-efficient appliances through new EU support round

Nearly 3,000 Moldovan households are set to receive modern household appliances through a new phase of the EcoVoucher Program. Launched on Monday, 30 March, the initiative is backed by the financial support of the European Union.

The program provides vouchers worth €305 (approx. 6,000 MDL) to vulnerable families, prioritizing those with multiple children and citizens over the age of 63. These vouchers cover up to 70% of the cost for a new refrigerator or washing machine.

Economic and environmental impact

To benefit from the subsidy, recipients must trade in an old, inefficient appliance of the same type. This "old-for-new" mechanism ensures that outdated equipment is removed from the national power grid and properly recycled.

Data from the National Center for Sustainable Energy reveals the program's massive scale. Since its inception, more than 40,000 appliances have been replaced, generating total energy savings exceeding €1.22 million (24 million MDL).

Registration and deadlines

The current session remains active until 20 April. Eligible citizens can register through the "Energy Vulnerability" Information System at the official government portal, compensatii.gov.md.

The initiative represents a key pillar in Moldova’s strategy to reduce energy poverty while modernizing domestic energy consumption patterns in line with European standards.
