Trump maintains strategic pressure on Tehran as nuclear enrichment disputes cloud fragile truce

The United States will maintain its military posture surrounding Iran, with President Donald Trump warning of immediate kinetic action if the recent two-week ceasefire is breached.

Following the April 8 agreement, the White House confirmed that naval and air assets, along with additional munitions, remain deployed in the region. Trump stated via Truth Social that these forces would stay until the "TRUE DEAL" is fully honored.

"If for any reason that does not happen, which is very unlikely, then we will start firing, harder and more extensively than anyone has ever seen," the President cautioned.

Nuclear disputes and regional tension

The warning follows Tehran’s characterization of long-term peace talks as "unreasonable." Iranian officials cited recent intense military activity in Lebanon as a primary driver of their skepticism.

Significant friction remains regarding Iran’s nuclear program. While Trump asserts that Tehran agreed to halt uranium enrichment, Mohammed Bager Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, maintains that enrichment rights continue under the current truce.

Securing the Strait of Hormuz

The primary US objective remains the prevention of nuclear weapons development and ensuring the Strait of Hormuz remains open. The strait is a critical artery for global oil transit.

"There will be no nuclear weapons, and the Strait of Hormuz will be open and safe," Trump added, emphasizing the strategic necessity of the waterway.

The temporary 14-day "bilateral ceasefire" was mediated with assistance from Pakistan. While commercial shipping has begun to resume, regional tensions remain high as both sides claim a tactical victory.
