Farmers’ VAT refunds unlocked

Farmers will receive VAT refunds within a month of submitting applications, including those from accumulated arrears, after the authorities have activated the reimbursement mechanism and finalized the necessary legal framework, stated Finance Minister Andrian Gavriliță.

Farmers can begin submitting their files immediately after the order is published in the Official Gazette, thanks to the simplified process implemented by the authorities.

"On the VAT side, we moved very quickly and shortened the legislative process as much as possible to promote the amendment. The law has been approved and is now in force. We followed the necessary transparency procedures, the order was signed, and it will be published tomorrow. After this change, farmers can start submitting their files from tomorrow. Typically, the tax service should refund the VAT in less than a month from the moment the file is submitted," the minister stated during a show on TV 8.

Additionally, the authorities are preparing to provide compensation for excise duties on diesel. This measure is set to be approved by a government decision and will be financed from the reserve fund. The minister emphasized that supporting agriculture is a priority during this period, especially since seasonal work is currently in full swing and fuel costs have risen significantly.

"The Ministry of Agriculture will actively promote this decision in the coming period," Gavriliță explained.

We remind you that the authorities had previously announced a support package for farmers. This package includes the reimbursement of excise duties on diesel for the period from March to May, when the main agricultural works take place, as well as an extension of the VAT refund deadline until December 2026 and the simplification of procedures. These measures aim to ensure liquidity for farmers affected by rising fuel prices and increased logistics costs.
