National Program for Romanian Language Learning: 100 adult groups formed this year

Over 6,800 people across the country have enrolled this year in Romanian language courses organized under the National Program for Romanian Language Learning 2026–2028. The program aims to develop adults’ language skills. In total, 100 groups have been formed nationwide, and the formation process continues as new requests from interested participants are received, the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) reports.

The Ministry of Education and Research (MEC) has developed a detailed plan for running the courses, including the selection of locations, online platforms, and the activity schedule. It also emphasizes a wider range of learning options, with classes held both in person and online to meet participants’ diverse needs.

“We have created Romanian language centers nationwide to organize the courses in the most accessible and efficient way. This allows participants to learn in the format that suits them best,” MEC representatives stated.

The program is structured into three language proficiency levels: A1, A2, and B1, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Participants will receive printed textbooks, available for rent at affordable prices, and upon completion of the courses they will receive a certificate confirming their language proficiency level.

Program beneficiaries

The courses are primarily aimed at adults who do not know Romanian well or wish to improve their language skills. Beneficiaries include representatives of national minorities, public sector employees and professionals from other fields, people returning from the diaspora, refugees, and other displaced persons living temporarily or permanently in the Republic of Moldova.

The program is also open to anyone seeking to improve their language proficiency for social and professional integration.

The National Romanian Language Learning Program was launched in 2023 at the initiative of the Ministry of Education. In previous editions, about 25,000 people benefited from free Romanian language courses.
