Kiev–Chișinău train may extend to Sângera; Revaca station will be modernized

The Revaca station building, which serves as the arrival point for passengers travelling on the direct railway line connecting the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, to the "Eugen Doga" Chisinau International Airport, will undergo modernisation. Additionally, authorities are currently designing the associated infrastructure in the area, according to Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
“The tender was announced for the redesign of the Revaca station building, which will be renamed 'Revaca-Airport'”, said Vladimir Bolea, before the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on April 15.
According to the official, everything will be adapted to serve the flow of passengers to the airport. The project also includes the arrangement of a municipal public transport station, with a roundabout and infrastructure for passenger pickup, located in the immediate vicinity of the station.
“The platform will be redesigned and, at the top, the National Roads Administration is working together with the Urban Mobility Directorate to design and, subsequently, build a station with the same name. The designs are taking place for the building of the so-called station, but the other part, the tender process for parking design services has not yet been completed”, the minister said.
Test run: 45 passengers from Kiev arrived in Chisinau
Vladimir Bolea's statements come after, on April 14, 45 Ukrainian citizens arrived in Chisinau on a test run, the first to make a direct connection between Kiev and the Chisinau airport. The train stopped at Revaca, from where the passengers were transported by bus to the airport in approximately 15 minutes.
"It was important to have this test run. You saw the residents of Ukraine's reaction. For them, the airport is already interconnected with the train, like in Bucharest or Brussels,", Bolea mentioned.
Final station in Sângera and extension for locals
The minister said that, in the future, the train route could continue to the town of Sângera, in the Chisinau municipality, where there is already a platform to be rehabilitated. Thus, residents of the area could benefit from a direct connection to the center of the capital.
The authorities cannot yet estimate the project's total cost or completion date, which will be determined after the design stages are complete.
"We do not have a set price. After the design, we will know how much it costs. It also depends on the work to be carried out," the official said.
Depending on passenger demand, the Revaca station could be permanently included in the train itinerary on train route 351, thereby strengthening the railway connection between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and providing direct access to Chisinau airport.
