Louisiana domestic dispute ends in tragedy as police neutralize suspect

Eight minors between the ages of one and 14 were killed early Sunday morning during a domestic-related shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana. Local authorities have characterized the incident as one of the deadliest tragedies in the city’s history.

The attack began around 05:00 local time, with the lone gunman shooting a total of 10 people across three different locations. The suspect was later intercepted and killed by law enforcement during a high-speed pursuit.

Community in mourning

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux expressed profound grief, noting that the violence has devastated families and traumatized first responders. "We are all mourning alongside these families," Arceneaux stated during a press briefing.

While the identities of the victims remain withheld, police confirmed that several of the children were related to the deceased gunman. The motive has been preliminary identified as a domestic escalation.

The police intervention

Officers arrived at the first scene shortly before 06:00, discovering multiple casualties. Corporal Chris Bordelon confirmed that all those who perished in the homes were minors.

Following the initial shootings, the suspect hijacked a vehicle to evade capture. Police tracked the gunman to a nearby neighborhood, where a lethal exchange of fire occurred, resulting in the suspect's death at the scene.
