National Weather Service issues severe storm advisory for Moldova with high winds and hail expected
The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has issued a Yellow Code alert for atmospheric instability across central and southern Moldova. The advisory is effective today, April 20, between 15:00 and 21:00.
Storm intensity and impact
Forecasters anticipate unsettled conditions characterized by short-term heavy rain and frequent lightning. Rainfall levels are expected to reach 15-25 mm in localized areas, potentially leading to surface runoff.
Severe gusts of wind reaching 15-20 m/s (approx. 72 km/h) and isolated hail are also predicted. These conditions may pose risks to infrastructure and temporary structures.
Safety recommendations
Authorities urge citizens to exercise caution and avoid non-essential travel during the storms. Residents should seek shelter in secure buildings, staying away from tall trees and metallic objects.
