Government will invest €20M via the “Sport 2030” strategy

The authorities are dedicated to investing 20 million euros in sports infrastructure. They plan to build 10 multifunctional sports complexes and develop 50 sports fields in schools across the country within the next three years. These initiatives are part of the "Sport 2030" Strategy implementation program for 2026–2028, which has been approved by the Government.
"A good news is that the program comes with an investment commitment of 20 million euros on the infrastructure side, and, once approved, the ministry will proceed to identify partners, donors and international creditors to support this process of modernizing the sector", declared the Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, presenting the initiative at the Executive meeting on April 22.
The strategy aims to support performance sports by increasing investments in centers intended for training national teams. At the same time, the number of legitimate athletes is set to increase from 6,000 to 10,000.
Dan Perciun also mentioned the arrangement of anti-doping control stations to monitor athletes' professional paths. A separate direction concerns the promotion of sports in schools, with 50 sports fields to be arranged in the coming period.
"Let's expand the number of school championships in various sports events, at the district and national levels, by 3–5 championships. We aim to increase the number of children enrolled in sports schools by 20% in the next three years," the minister pointed out, also highlighting the need to adapt the sports infrastructure to the needs of children with disabilities.
The Ministry of Education and Research estimates that the implementation of the measures provided for in the program will lead to improved performances of Moldovan athletes and increased popularity of mass sports, including by organizing more sports events.
We remind you that last week, the Government approved another initiative, according to the authorities, which will contribute to the development of professional sports in the Republic of Moldova. MP and footballer Maxim Potîrniche, the author of the project, believes that the sports result represents an economic asset that can and should be monetized. The initiative, which is also expected to pass Parliament, will allow professional sports clubs to operate as businesses.
Currently, their legal status does not allow them to freely utilize the income they receive, as they are organized as civil associations. After the proposed amendments are passed, sports clubs will be able to become commercial companies and distribute income as dividends or use it for other expenses.
