2026 Europe Day brings EU village to Moldova

Moldova will celebrate 2026 Europe Day with major cultural and educational events in Chisinau and Soroca. The Delegation of the European Union will host activities under the theme "You are Europe: Peace. Freedom. Growth." These events aim to highlight the EU Growth Plan and European values.

EU Ambassador Iwona Piórko emphasized Moldova's critical historical moment on its path to European integration. "This profound transformation brings concrete benefits to citizens, such as investments and better jobs," she stated. Piórko urged citizens to fully embrace this opportunity for peace and freedom.

European village in Chisinau

The main celebration takes place on May 9 in Chisinau's Great National Assembly Square. The European Village will open its doors at 1:00 PM, featuring 22 EU member states and 35 EU-funded projects. The daytime schedule includes children's contests, interactive games, and traditional European performances.

The May 9 evening will conclude with a major concert. Performers include Romanian artist Minelli, rock band Alternosfera, and Gabriel Nebunu.

Events extend to Soroca

A second European Village will open in Soroca on May 16 at 2:00 PM. The event will take place on 5 Stefan cel Mare Street. Visitors can explore local development initiatives funded by European partners.

The Soroca celebration will feature performances by Carla's Dreams, Akord, and Gabriel Nebunu. Both cities will host European food tastings, craft workshops, and interactive activities for all ages.

Literature and cultural exchange

Author Ionela Hadârcă will attend the events in both Chisinau and Soroca. She will gift visitors copies of her book, "The Price of a Smile." The European Union financially supported the publication of this volume.
