Renewable energy producers claim they could deliver electricity at a lower rate to needy families

A group of renewable energy producers claim they could deliver electricity to more than 300 thousand end consumers at a lower rate than the market, if Energocom Joint Stock Company would agree to procure it. Energocom representatives say that they cannot buy electricity from local producers, because they only buy wholesale electricity from large producers.

A group of producers of renewable electricity from the Republic of Moldova propose that the electricity be given centrally to the company with state capital "Energocom". According to wind power producer Vasile Apostol, the power would be sold at a preferential price for socially vulnerable families.

"The energy produced by us is 20 million KWh monthly to be given to the State Enterprise SA "Energocom" at a price of 1.50 lei, we add 1.05 leu for transport and sell this energy at the rate of 2.55 lei to needy families. Over 300,000 citizens of the Republic of Moldova could benefit from this facility. We are ready to help implement this mechanism as soon as possible", said Vasile Apostol.

Producers holding an electricity supplier licence or addressed to Energocom for the Joint Stock Company to procure their electricity. On the other hand, the head of the national suppliers section within Energocom, Eugeniu Boțu, told Radio Moldova that Energocom buys wholesale electricity only from large producers, but small producers should sell electricity to suppliers.

"We cannot procure energy from this producer and sell it to final consumers, the only solution, we can only sell to suppliers, Premier Energy or FEE Nord", declared Eugeniu Boțu.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu said that this week he will try to find a solution to this problem, suggesting that depending on the energy situation in the country, he will decide whether he will allow producers to sell electricity either in Ukraine or in Romania.

"They want to sell Energocom, for Energocom to sell on to Premier Energy or FEE Nord, not for export. We will analyse, if everything will go well and we will not have a deficit of domestic electricity, then we may cancel the decision of the Commission of the Exceptional Situation that these producers can export electricity to Romania, Ukraine or elsewhere", he said Andrei Spînu.

TRM.MD recalls that in the following days, electricity could be cheaper by 0.25 lei. On Monday, the Commission for Exceptional Situations requested the National Agency for Energy Regulation to review the current tariff. The request comes after the resumption of deliveries from the Cuciurgan Power Plant, at a price of 73 US dollars per megawatt hour.
