Drinking water for hundreds of families in Moscovei village; works due June 2026

Residents of the village of Moscovei in the Cahul district will soon have access to drinking water directly in their homes, thanks to the completion of an infrastructure project under the National Program "European Village." The investment, estimated at over 10 million lei, includes the construction of aqueduct networks, two water towers, an artesian well, and the connection of hundreds of households and public institutions.

The project "Construction of drinking water supply infrastructure in the village of Moscovei, Cahul district" was launched in October 2025 and is scheduled for completion in June 2026, within the second edition of the "European Village" Program.

The works include the construction of 14.4 kilometers of aqueduct networks, the installation of two water towers with a volume of 50 cubic meters each, the drilling of an artesian well, the installation of a water disinfection station and the construction of 424 individual connections.

For the project's implementation, the Government, through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, allocates 10 million lei, and the local public administration of the commune of Moscovei contributes approximately 290 thousand lei.

Upon completion of the project, the water supply system will serve 416 households, home to approximately 1,200 residents, in addition to eight community institutions: the gymnasium, kindergarten, family doctor's office, health center, cultural center, nursing home, city hall, and church. The network will also support six local businesses.

The mayor of Moscovei commune, Stepan Volcov, highlighted that this project addresses a long-standing need that the community has had for several decades.

“The construction of the aqueduct in our locality marks a significant event that residents have been anticipating for years. For us, this is not just an infrastructure project; it is a vital necessity,” the mayor stated.

According to local reports, residents have been struggling with a lack of drinking water for years, especially during the hot season when many wells run dry.

"Today, we are witnessing an important step towards improving living conditions, developing infrastructure, and ensuring a minimum level of comfort. The construction of the aqueduct is a result of our shared hope, patience, and desire to create a better future at home", said Stepan Volcov.

The mayor expressed gratitude to the central authorities and partners involved in the investment. He also mentioned that the local administration aims to participate in future editions of the "European Village" Program to further expand access to drinking water throughout the community.

The commune of Moscovei also encompasses the village of Trifeștii Noi, with a total population of 3,063 inhabitants, including approximately 500 children.
