Police report the lowest road accident level in 13 years, with 47 deaths in Moldova this year

Police statistics show a decline in road accidents in Moldova, with 510 cases recorded in the first four months of the year, the lowest level in the past 13 years. However, the number of deaths remains largely unchanged, with 47 fatalities compared to 49 in the same period last year.

Since the start of this year, road accidents have injured 601 people, 21.4 percent fewer than the 13-year average.

Statistics show the highest number of accidents occurred in the first four months of 2015, with 767 crashes and 887 injuries.

The most road deaths were reported in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018, ranging from 88 to 107 fatalities.

Authorities say the main causes of road accidents remain unchanged, with speeding leading the list.

Other common causes include failure to adjust speed to weather conditions, driving under the influence of alcohol, and breaking traffic rules, especially failing to yield to pedestrians.

Law enforcement stresses that these violations reflect drivers’ sense of responsibility and highlights the importance of individual behavior in preventing accidents and saving lives.
