Premium cat breeds showcased at Moldova’s elite exhibition

Rare and prize-winning felines took center stage at the International Cat Exhibition held in the capital, with some specimens valued at several thousand euros. The event highlighted the growing professionalization of Moldovan breeders, showcasing European champions and exotic lineages to a sophisticated public.

European champions on display

Among the highlights was Thomas, a two-year-old British Golden male and established European champion. His owner, Natalia Dimitrova, emphasized that maintaining such high standards requires significant investment in specialized grooming lines and professional care, particularly for maintaining the coat’s texture and health.

The exhibition also featured Sultan, a fourteen-month-old Bengal cat. This breed, a hybrid of the domestic cat and the Asian Leopard Cat, is highly prized for its wild aesthetic and energetic temperament. Owners noted that while the visual appeal is striking, the breed requires dedicated socialization and activity.

Professional breeding and market value

For those interested in long-haired breeds, Angela Slobodeniuc presented Kiunna, a four-month-old British Longhair making her competitive debut. Contrary to popular belief, breeders noted that long-haired varieties often require less frequent intervention than short-haired breeds, provided a consistent weekly grooming routine is established.

The event attracted a diverse crowd, from professional breeders to families looking to acquire a pedigree pet. Market prices for a purebred kitten at the exhibition range between €400 (approx. 7,880 MDL) and €500 (approx. 9,850 MDL), with many sought-after litters already reserved by collectors.

Visitor information

The exhibition remains open to the public this Sunday, May 3, from 10:00 to 19:00. Visitors have the opportunity to engage with international judges and learn about the technical requirements for feline competitive standards.
