Tourists encouraged to discover Călărași through new itinerary

The Călărași district is set to launch a new tourist route in May 2026, aimed at those who appreciate nature, traditions, and authentic experiences. Titled "The Sweetest Tourist Route in the Region," this itinerary offers a one-day excursion through some of the most picturesque locations in the center of the country. It will combine stunning natural attractions, rich cultural heritage, and local flavors. This new route will complement the "Sipoteni Forests" route, which was launched in 2022, and aims to enhance the region's status as a tourist destination in the Republic of Moldova.

Museum curator and tour guide Mariana Iurcu explains that the new route offers visitors a chance to discover how certain local products are made and to understand the challenges faced by small entrepreneurs. “It will be a beautiful, sweet, active experience. At the same time, they will gain insight into what it means to be a small entrepreneur,” she said.

According to Mariana Iurcu, the route will include several tourist destinations in the Călărași – Sipoteni – Bahmut area. Tourists will visit the "Plaiul Fagului" Scientific Reserve, the "Cerbul Nobel" complex, the Sipoteni Village Museum, and the old church in the village. Participants will also have the chance to admire the vibrant water lilies in full bloom across the region's lakes. “We will also reach the Cerbul Nobel and admire these delightful animals,” said the tour guide.

Residents and travel enthusiasts note that the Călărași district is becoming increasingly attractive to tourists due to its diverse cultural and historical offerings. History teacher Natalia Boboc highlighted that the region already features popular thematic routes, including a pottery route. “The Museum of History and Ethnography in Călărași has a fascinating collection of vessels characteristic of the Cucuteni-Tripolie Culture, which is also included in this tourist route,” she stated.

Natalia Boboc expressed her desire to explore other attractions in the district, including the village of Horodiște and one of the oldest wooden churches still preserved today. She is confident that this summer will draw many tourists to the area. “The schedule is busy, but we will definitely have many tourists this summer, and together we will explore the beautiful places in Călărași,” the teacher said.

The organizers have designed the route to cater to all categories of visitors, from children to adults. The program includes visits to the Călărași City Museum, guided tours of the city, picnics in nature, and exploration of tourist attractions via hiking or cycling. Mariana Iurcu mentioned that interest in the new route is already high. “The upcoming weekends are already booked, and there are more adults signed up for the weeks ahead,” she noted.
