The Chairman-in-Office and Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Ignazio Cassis and Feridun Sinirlioğlu, will officially visit the Republic of Moldova on May 14 and 15.

The agenda will include meetings with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri, and Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

After discussions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), Mihai Popșoi will hold a press conference alongside OSCE officials at 10:20.

In the second part of the day, a meeting in the “2+2” format is planned. This meeting will include the two Chairmen-in-Office of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (CoE) and the OSCE, Mihai Popșoi and Ignazio Cassis, along with the Secretaries General of these organizations, Alain Berset and Feridun Sinirlioğlu.

On May 15, officials will participate in the 135th ministerial meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. This meeting will mark the end of the Republic of Moldova's six-month chairmanship and the official handover to Monaco.

The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), which the Republic of Moldova joined on January 30, 1992, is an international organisation comprising 57 participating states. It promotes peace, security, and stability in Europe and other regions. The OSCE is involved in conflict prevention, election monitoring, and the protection of human rights.

The OSCE chairmanship rotates annually. In 2026, the chairmanship will be held by Belgium, with the position occupied by Ignazio Cassis, the Vice-President of the Swiss Confederation and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

The OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova began its operations in April 1993. It was established to facilitate a sustainable settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and is the only international organization with a permanent presence on both banks of the Nistru, with offices in Chișinău, Tiraspol, and Bender.
