New Dublin Agreement removes exam requirement for Moldovan drivers in Ireland

Drivers from the Republic of Moldova can exchange their driving licenses in Ireland without taking additional exams. The government approved this agreement on Wednesday, May 13, during President Maia Sandu's official visit to Dublin.

The document outlines the mutual recognition of valid licenses and the equivalence of driving categories between the two countries.

"Through this mechanism, citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are legally residing in Ireland will be able to exchange their driving licenses through a simplified procedure. This will enhance access to the labor market, improve mobility, and promote social integration," stated Victor Grosu, the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, during an executive meeting.

The official noted that this agreement marks a significant step toward aligning the Republic of Moldova with European practices and supporting the mobility of its citizens.

"The Republic of Moldova has similar agreements with several European and partner states. The approval of this document is a critical advancement in facilitating the mobility of our citizens and in aligning with European standards," emphasized the Secretary of State.

The agreement between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova and the Department of Transport, along with the Road Safety Authority of Ireland, on the exchange of driving licenses was signed in Dublin on April 8 during President Maia Sandu's official visit to Ireland.

The Republic of Moldova has established similar mechanisms for recognizing driving licenses with Romania, Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Lithuania, Turkey, Albania, Israel, and the United Kingdom.
