Nicu Popescu: Our desire is to take the Republic of Moldova to the free world
The presence in Chisinau of the representatives of the Foreign Ministries of eight member countries of the European Union is a strong message of the support of the European partners in the process of integrating our country into the community space, declared in a briefing the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu.
According to the official, in the discussion with them, the importance of gender equality in the development of a fairer and more equitable society was emphasized, but also the impact of the war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova.
"This visit obviously also comes in the context of the very difficult situation in which our region is as a result of the brutal aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. This aggression that had an enormous negative impact on our country, on our society, on our economy, on the political system, on the humanitarian situation in our country. This war, and the negative effects that convince us and have convinced us more than ever of our firm attachment and our desire to lead the Republic of Moldova and to strengthen the role of the Republic of Moldova in the free world", declared Nicu Popescu.
The representatives of the Foreign Ministries of eight EU member countries also had a meeting with the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu. The interlocutors discussed the progress made by our country in the last year in the European integration process.
The head of state reiterated that our country's place is in the European Union. For their part, the officials noted the results obtained by the Republic of Moldova in terms of the political representation of women, but also the efforts undertaken by the authorities in promoting equality and combating gender violence.
